The History of Diseworth

The village of Diseworth has a long and
interesting history, from Roman, Saxon and Viking settlements,
through to the days when Langley Priory and Christ's College,
Cambridge owned much of the land, into the mid-twentieth century
when the lack of electricity or gas mains led to the nickname
"Paraffin City".
This section provides information on a variety of topics, including
the history of the village itself, the
Baptist Chapel building, the
Parish
Church and the village
War Memorial. Background information
includes census data, and other information
to assist with family history research, and a library of old
photographs showing the village in days gone
by.
We are always looking to add to this collection, and would be glad to receive any material you may care to share with us, whether it be oral, written or pictorial.
